Forgiveness
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
Transliteration
Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakunanna minal-khasirin
Meaning
Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers.

Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadhal-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin ‘alayna safarana hadha watwi ‘anna bu‘dah. Allahumma antas-sahibu fis-safar, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl. Allahumma inni a‘udhu bika min wa‘tha’is-safar, wa ka’abatil-manzar, wa su’il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahl
Meaning
Glory be to the One who has made this subject to us, which we could never have managed ourselves, and to our Lord we will surely return. O Allah, on this journey we ask You for goodness and mindfulness of You, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and its distance short. O Allah, You are our Companion on the journey and the One who looks after our families. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, from distressing sights, and from returning to find harm in our wealth or families.
Umrah

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ

Transliteration
Innas-safa wal-marwata min sha‘a’irillah, faman hajjal-bayta awi‘tamara fala junaha ‘alayhi an yattawwafa bihima, wa man tatawwa‘a khayran fa’innallaha shakirun ‘alim
Meaning
Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever performs Hajj or Umrah to the House does no wrong in walking between them. And whoever does good of their own accord, Allah is Appreciative, All-Knowing.
Umrah
At Safa, as you begin Sa‘i
أَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ
Transliteration
Abda’u bima bada’allahu bih
Meaning
I begin with what Allah began with.
Umrah
On Safa and on Marwah, facing the Ka‘bah, after saying Allahu akbar
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ أَنْجَزَ وَعْدَهُ وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ

La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir. La ilaha illallahu wahdah, anjaza wa‘dah, wa nasara ‘abdah, wa hazamal-ahzaba wahdah
Meaning
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things. There is no god but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, gave victory to His servant, and alone defeated the allied forces.

Transliteration

Purification and prayer, step by step
These guides describe the common ground on purification and prayer, drawn from the Qur’an and authentic hadith. They are a place to start, not religious rulings. Schools differ on some details, so always ask your imam or local mosque.
Purification
The washing the Qur’an asks of you before prayer.
Intend, and begin
Make intention in your heart, say Bismillah.
Wash your hands
Both hands up to the wrists, three times.
Rinse your mouth
Take water into your mouth, swirl it and spit it out, three times.
Clean your nose
Draw water into your nose and blow it out, three times.
Wash your face
From the hairline to the chin, and from ear to ear, three times.
Wash your arms
The right arm from the fingertips up to and including the elbow, three times. Then the left.
Wipe your head
Pass your wet hands over your head, once.
How much of the head differs between schools. Follow your mosque.
Wipe your ears
With wet fingers: inside with your index fingers, behind with your thumbs, once.
Wash your feet
The right foot up to and including the ankle, three times, reaching between the toes. Then the left.
Wudu is broken by
Using the toilet, passing wind, deep sleep, or losing consciousness.
Schools differ on some other things. Ask your mosque.

Purification
The full wash of the body, as the Prophet ﷺ did it.

Ghusl is needed
After intimacy or a wet dream, and when menstruation or post-natal bleeding ends.
It is also Sunnah before Jumu’ah.

The prayer
The prayer as the Prophet ﷺ taught it, one rak’ah at a time.
Before you begin
Be in wudu, clean and covered, and face the Qibla.
Intend
In your heart, the prayer you are about to pray.
Begin with the takbir
Raise your hands and say Allahu akbar.
Stand and recite
Recite al-Fatihah, then some more of the Qur’an in the first two rak’ahs.
What to recite behind an imam differs between schools. Follow your mosque.
Bow (ruku’)
Say Allahu akbar and bow, hands on your knees, back straight. Say Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Adhim, three times.
Rise
Stand up straight, saying Sami‘Allahu liman hamidah, then Rabbana wa lakal-hamd.
Prostrate (sujud)
Say Allahu akbar and go down on your forehead and nose, palms, knees and toes. Say Subhana Rabbiyal-A‘la, three times.
Sit, then prostrate again
Sit up briefly, then make a second sujud. That is one rak’ah. Stand for the next.
Sit for the tashahhud
After every second rak’ah, and at the end. In the last sitting, add blessings on the Prophet ﷺ.
End with the salam
Turn your head to the right, then the left, saying As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah.
Be still in each position
The Prophet ﷺ told a man who prayed in a hurry to go back and pray again, calmly, in every position.

Pray Dhuhr instead, four rak’ahs.
